Introducing the new
XLR-8 Drive System

In the mid 1940s, the
aviation world realized that the technological evolution of piston/propeller
powered aircraft had reached its apex. Military aircraft at the time
had reached 400mph, and in a practical sense, could go no faster.
Since the existing technology could go no further, a technological
revolution was called for to move to the next speed plateau. This was
the time when jet technology was introduced.
Dynatorch has always
been on the leading edge of technology. We have produced an
exceptional drive system tailored to plasma and oxy-fuel cutting, that we
believe is the best in the industry. For the last 10 years we have
constantly improved our system, with the addition of features and changes to
make the system even more efficient. We realize that there are many
things that we would like to introduce to the plasma cutting world, however,
our present technology does not permit additional evolution. Like
propeller driven aircraft in the 1940s, it is time for a technological
revolution.
With the above in mind,
Dynatorch is proud to announce the XLR-8 drive system. Designed
expressly and exclusively for plasma and oxy-fuel cutting applications.
What
is different and why it is better
2.
The XLR-8 system uses encoders capable of 10,000 pulses per revolution,
giving the user incredible motion resolution. More resolution means
better and more accurate torch positioning.
3.
Our current drive system was limited on communications speeds between the
personal computer and motors. Communications speed controls the amount
of information necessary to accurately cut an object. An extreme
example of this limitation might be cutting a very small circle and having
the cutting result look like the shape of a stop sign. The XLR-8
communication system can deliver significantly more cutting information to
the motors, resulting in more detailed and accurate cuts.
4.
Smoothness in cutting is a goal we always strive for. It’s obvious
that the smoother the servo motor rotation is, the smoother the resulting
cut will be. The XLR-8 utilizes sinusoidal commutation, and is
the preferred method of operation if smoothness is desired.
5.
The plasma cutting environment is typically dirty and rife with electrical
interference. The XLR-8 uses components with exceptional reliability
that will give many years of quality service.
To summarize: The
new Dynatorch XLR-8 drive system with integrated arc voltage torch
height control is more powerful, faster, smoother and is capable of more
accurate cutting than our previous systems or competition.
