Ohmic sensing gives us a low cost alternative to find the pierce height using an electrical contact of the torch cap to the plate, This results in a very accurate height with an extremely soft touch-off. This is most helpful when cutting very thin materials that might flex under the pressure sensing (default) method of plate detection. Because the system does not measure the pierce height distance until the tip actually looses contact on the retract cycle, even the smallest deflection is eliminated from the height calculation. This is a simple install that takes only a few minutes to complete and may be used on any Dynatorch system.

 

 Be aware that since electrical contact is required, The plate must not be coated or covered in non-conductive material. Also, you will need the consumable set for your torch that has an ohmic sensing clip. We can assist you in determining the part numbers to order for your particular torch brand and model. Also be aware that this system will NOT work with unshielded consumables as the nozzle is not capable of being used in this way. If using Hypertherm "Fine Line" consumables, a special cap for ohmic sensing is available. On larger Automation type plasma systems, ohmic sensing consumables are always available.
